Would the fans still consider Ric Flair's 16 WHC reigns if they know is from NWA and WCW?

Is it just me or has vince got this weird cult following who want to rewrite history and claim ownership of everything and who want to claim all the best wrestling stuf was the work of wwe ? whats up with that ?
